Leadership Recognition

Students

Hopewell students have raised money for the United Way, Lesotho schools, the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Moving Mountains, the Food Bank, Free the Children charities and the World Wildlife Fund. Student and community input is sought and incorporated into our school planning. With such a wide selection of leaders to choose from, we have seen our students be our Master of Ceremonies, speakers at Museums and National forums. Many of their accomplishments are acknowledged on our School website, community newspapers, assemblies, and our school newsletters. Our choir and band students show great leadership in raising money for charity through a number of concerts and activities. Our Junior and Intermediate students model strong leadership in sports, winning numerous first place banners for our school.

Staff

Our staff members are highly committed to their own professional development and many provide board and system wide workshops. Hopewell staff members demonstrate leadership both within and outside of the classroom as models and mentors, coaches and leaders They have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelors and Masters degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Sciences, Social Studies and Counseling, as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, Visual Arts, Guidance, and Computers in Education. Their dedication to the students at Hopewell is exceptional. Support staff work tirelessly and patiently to address the school’s physical plant, student needs, parent requests and community connections. We also recognize staff leadership via personal interactions with one another, letters of thanks, school announcements, school newsletters, assemblies, performance appraisals, and our Principal’s report to School Council. We will continue to support our staff through our mentoring and creative leadership programs, which serves to enhance professional practice.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our dedicated School Council provides invaluable support to our school. As a result of their generosity, our students have the opportunity to participate in a number of drama presentations, science activities, sports and field trips, musicals and so much more. In addition, they arranged lunch hour enrichment activities. Whether our volunteers read once a week with our kindergarten students, assist with photocopying or field trips, or participate on School Council, we acknowledge and value the tremendous role they play as our partners in education. Our volunteers contribute countless hours of support for the benefit of students in our school. As invaluable partners, we thank them immensely.

Community

Local businesses generously provide donations for many of our activities such as the annual United Way drive. Stores in our community provide coffee for many activities and show continuous support of school events. Other local stores have been partners on a number of initiatives. The restaurants, the Ottawa Public Library and the “Firehall” in our neighbourhood work hand in hand with us to ensure that Intermediate students who are in the community over the three days a cycle lunch hour are a credit to their families and to the school. We are appreciative of our very positive relationship with all the area merchants. We acknowledge and thank all of them for their support of the school.
