About Our School

Student success is at the heart of what we do at Hopewell. Our students receive a balanced and integrated program that engages them in instruction and learning in the classroom. Critical and creative thinking challenges our students to learn in new and different ways. Students are encouraged to work both individually and collaboratively to improve skills and to achieve success in a warm and nurturing environment.

Students

The majority of our students live in Old Ottawa South, Ottawa East, the Glebe and Centertown. Our school has a diverse community of students, representing many cultures and languages. Students demonstrate respect for each other and a commitment to learning. Many activities are planned throughout the school year where students from all grades have opportunities to collaborate, mentor, and learn from and with each other. They gain leadership and teamwork experience through involvement in activities, teams, and clubs at all levels.

Staff

Our staff includes teachers, a principal and vice principal, office support staff, educational assistants, early childhood educators, a Learning Support Teacher (LST) and Learning Resource Teacher (LRT), a library technician, and custodial staff. We are supported centrally by a Board psychologist, a speech and language pathologist, and a social worker. The Hopewell staff nurtures the development of healthy lifestyles, positive decision making, environmental awareness, and character education. Our staff is dedicated to excellence in the classroom and demonstrates a strong commitment to providing engaging and relevant programming for students. Our staff is a combination of experienced teachers and those who have recently joined the profession. These dedicated educators are committed to personal professional development and many have specialist qualifications and/or advanced degrees.

Hopewell Atrium

Hopewell Avenue Public School is located in the heart of Old Ottawa South. A community school has been located on this site since the mid-1800s. The school began as a one-room log building and shifted to take its present form in 1910 as an eight-room school. During the 1996-97 school year, the school underwent a complete renovation. The exterior of the original 1910 brick building was maintained while the interior was completely updated. A stunning three-level addition was built to increase capacity. The result is a beautiful blend of heritage and modern facilities and amenities. An attractive atrium, designed to allow natural light into the interior classrooms, joins the two buildings and has become the focal point for numerous celebrations, gatherings and school activities.

These programs offer a fee based service for children and their caring adults. For information regarding their child care options, please visit the Glebe Parents’ Day Care website.
